APPLE CORE DRESS

Detail of a ‘Apple Core Dress’, slices of apple with tinned copper wire, 1998
The bodice structure of this dress is made with a grid of knotted wires inlaid with individual slices of apple core, which then become a free flowing web of wires floating down to the ground with further apple core accents at its hem.
Made at a time when I was working on the boundary between jewellery making and creating sculptural form. Choices of non precious materials comment on perceived value, with the jewel like quality of the dress being found in the delicate flower motifs revealed by slicing through the apple core.
This garment/sculpture now only exists in photograhs.
